North Shore Labor Council Monthly Update: June 2024
Report from June 26th Action Outside the Massachusetts State House:
On June 26th the MBTU, with support from other local unions and central labor councils, held an action outside the MA State House in support of strong project labor agreements. Specifically, MBTU is calling on legislators to quickly pass House Bill 3012 and Senate Bill 2027. NSLC Delegates that attended the event report a strong turnout and energetic speakers in support of the project labor agreements. More information about the MBTU's support of these bills, as well as resources to write a letter of support to legislators, can be found here.

Solidarity with Workers at the Lowell Telemedia Center in their Contract Campaign!
Staff at the Lowell Telemedia Center (LTC) affiliated with NABET-CWA Local 18 in early 2023 and have been locked in contract negotiations since then. Bargaining has halted over the lack of guaranteed raises offered by the Company, as well as their insistence that LTC be an open-shop with no union security. Proposals for an "open-shop" explicitly reference the 2018 Janus decision from the supreme court, even though it doesn't apply to the private sector, and parrot "right-to-work" talking points made throughout the country. This effort by the company is an attempt to weaken the rights of employees to collectively bargain, undermine the capacity of the union, and ensure a stronger bargaining position for the Company. The North Shore Labor Council strongly supports NABET-CWA members in their contract campaign. If you or your union are interested in supporting our new union brothers and sisters at the Telemedia Center, please contact the NSLC for more information on how you can show solidarity.
