A huge thanks to everyone that came to support the nurses at Salem Hospital for their informational picket! The community is firmly behind MNA as they fight for a fair contract, and we will continue to support them until a deal has been been reached.
Don't forget the deadline to vote is quickly approaching! Eunice Zeigler and Eileen Duff are the only two candidates endorsed by the North Shore Labor Council, but you can also reference the MA AFL-CIO's handy voter guide of labor champions across the state at this link: https://massaflcio.org/political-issues-endorsements
We had a wonderful turnout for our "Yes on 2" canvass this past weekend! Huge thanks to Rep. Pete Capano, School Committee member Sean Reid, and LTU President Sheila O'Neil for kicking things off for us - and a special thanks to all other elected officials that were able to come, including School Committee member Eric Dugan, Councilor Brian LaPierre, Councilor Coco Alinsug, and Democratic State Committee member Sandy Anshewitz.
There's still time to get involved in the "Yes on 2" campaign! We'll be gathering every Sunday until the election to canvass in Lynn. We meet at 10:30am in the IUE Local 201 hall (112 Exchange St.) for refreshments and snacks before heading out to knock doors. Everyone is welcome to join!
Join us November 21st for a showcase of the present and future of Lynn Public Schools. Lynn Teachers Union in conjunction with LPS will be hosting a night of celebrating the achievements of our students and teachers. The future is bright for LPS. But to ensure progress continues we must also ensure that our schools are properly funded. Lynn schools are currently facing the prospect of an additional $24 million being drained from their budget as a result of the proposed KIPP charter expansion. Through this showcase we'll hear more about this issue as well as highlighting the strengths progress made in our public schools.
There's still time to join the AFL-CIO to knock doors in New Hampshire! Massachusetts may not be at play, but you can still make a difference up there. See the flyer for more details.
A very warm welcome to the newest delegate to the NSLC, Cheryl Ferullo. Cheryl is a Business Agent with UFCW Local 1445 and is actively involved in women's issues within the union. We're so excited to have her in the council as we continue striving to build the labor movement!
Huge congrats to Omni Parker House and Omni Boston Seaport hotel workers that recently ratified their contract! Workers at these locations went on strike to secure better wages and working conditions from their managers and they won. But the struggle isn't over! Other Unite Here Local 26 members are still on strike in Boston, and have been for some time. Be sure to never cross a picket line! To check if a hotel near you is on strike, visit fairhotel.org.
